What is KB Compounding?

Kilobyte Compounding is when you have too many things on your page. Page weight for modern websites should be at about 100-200KB. Using Joomla and its modular framework, it is very easy to add new components and modules to you pages, but there is a cost. A module may be small and take up a small amount of screen real estate, but it may include a Javascripts file and a stylesheet. Sometimes they even include a 70KB Javascript framework with their install. If you have 5 - 10 modules on a page that have a large footprint your pages can compound in the upwards of 350-1000KB. Right out of the box Joomla is pushing 200KB (depending upon your template) so it takes some ingenuity to bring your pages under control and optimize your output.
