What is a Sitemap?

Answer

There are three types of Site maps: an HTML site map, an XML site map, and a Development Sitemap. We have an extension that automatically creates an HTML and XML site map for your site. Basically it takes all your menu items and builds a page with all of their links. People can go to this page and find it categorically organized for quick access. Search Engines, such as Google will use an xml site map to discover you links.

A Development Sitemap is different. We use sitemaps to discover what you our client are imagining your site will look like. For instance:

  • home
  • products
    • category
      • product 1
    • category2
      • product 2
    • category 3
      • product 4
      • product 5
  • Services
    • service 1
    • service 2
  • about
  • contact

Each bullet point represents a page that your visitor will be able to navigate to. This process will help us organize your idea for the web. There is a whole art to information organization and we are here to help you through it. Once you put together a sitemap you'll then be able to figure out what content you need to create. We suggest you create separate text documents (Word docs) for each page.

If you want help creating your web pages, we offer content services that will bring you through the entire content development process.
